Only 13 immigration consultancy firms registered in SAS Nagar In blatant violation of the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act 2012, hundreds of immigration consultancy firms in the district are functioning without registration. With a flurry of fraud complaints against such firms, the Punjab governor on January 4, 2013, had given assent to the Act, following which it became mandatory for all immigration consultants to get registered. The Act was put in place to check and curb immigration firms’ illegal and fraudulent activities and malpractices of the persons involved in organisational human smuggling in Punjab. Popular Delhi-IVF Center raided, sealed in Bengali Market Updated: May 29, 2013 02:05 IST A team of the National Inspection and Monitoring Committee (NIMC), constituted under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT) Act, 1994, on Tuesday morning swooped down on Dr Anup Gupta’s Delhi IVF Center at Bengali Market and sealed the place. In a raid that lasted for eight hours, the team confiscated five ultrasound diagnostic machines and issued a show-cause notice to the IVF center. The team allegedly found non-compliance of the Act and irregularities in reporting of patient details who had undergone tests at the centre. Karandeep Singh, Deepak Arora, Madhu and Pooja Munjal, used to run a company called Jet Immigration in phase I, Mohali district police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said. "After receiving a complaint, we have booked four persons of Jet Immigration. They had taken approximately Rs.80 lakh from seven people and had promised to send them to the US and Canada. They had also promised to provide lucrative jobs to them there," he said. "However, they neither sent them abroad nor returned their money. Our investigation is on and very soon we will arrest the accused," Bhullar added

Immigration fraud: Woman arrested in Mohali MOHALI: Co-owner of a travel agency, Jet International Consultant, Dolly Arora, was arrested in Zirakpur on Saturday for immigration fraud while concealing her real identity. During questioning Dolly revealed that her husband and co-owner of the agency, Deepak Arora, had also changed his name. Deepak, who is absconding, is facing cheating and forgery charges in 74 cases. Dolly had changed her name to Jyoti Arora, while her husband had assumed the name of Ravi Arora. She was arrested following an inquiry into a complaint of cheating filed by Mehar Kumar of Ambala. The police also revealed that the accused couple was also running another illegal travel agency, Speed Ward.com on National Highway (NH) No 22 in Zirakpur for the last six months and nobody knew about their real identity.

He has been arrested and remanded to two days' police custody. Karandeep, along with the other accused Deepak Arora, ran the immigration firm from Mohali which duped scores of youths of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of sending them abroad. Arora is still at large but with the surrender of Karandeep, the police now expect to arrest him soon. On Friday the police arrested Karandeep Singh's brother Lakhbinder Singh. He was presented in court today and remanded to a day in police custody. Lakhbinder was arrested from his village at Payal, Khanna District.
