Karandeep Singh, owner of Jet Immigration and main accused in the
cheating and fraud case, surrendered before the Mohali District Courts
today. He has been arrested and remanded to two days' police custody.
Karandeep, along with the other accused Deepak Arora, ran the
immigration firm from Mohali which duped scores of youths of lakhs of
rupees on the pretext of sending them abroad. Arora is still at large
but with the surrender of Karandeep, the police now expect to arrest him
soon.
On Friday the police arrested Karandeep Singh's brother
Lakhbinder Singh. He was presented in court today and remanded to a day
in police custody. Lakhbinder was arrested from his village at Payal,
Khanna District. He is a property dealer who apparently invested
Karandeep's money, obtained through his illegal immigration business.
The surrender comes after the Mohali Police sought permission
from the court for search warrants to investigate the premises of Deepak
Arora. In the past week the police had built up pressure on the accused
after teams raided several areas of Chandigarh, Panchkula and Ambala.
Previously, the police had also raided Deepak Arora's sister's house at
Bikaner but were unable to catch him.
Jet immigration have 24 cases of fraud, forgery and cheating
registered against them. The cheating is estimated to be over around 2
crore. Apart from the registered cases, the police have been receiving
new complaints against the firm.
Speaking to Newsline, Superintendent of Police (SP) Harpreet
Singh said, "We expect to get information about Deepak Arora, the other
accused, after interrogating Karandeep. The surrender was expected as we
had arrested his brother last week and had further built up pressure by
raiding various places in the past week."
