A suspect wanted in connection with an immigration racket was brought on a production warrant here by the police today.
Deepak Arora, who was running an immigration company with the help Karandeep Singh, was arrested by the Amritsar police.
Alam Vijay Singh , DSP, said the Mohali police brought him here as he was wanted in 111 cases of alleged cheating and fraud. He was produced in a court, which remanded him in police custody till December 13.
Karandeep Singh, co-owner of the immigration company, against whom cases of cheating and fraud have been registered, had surrendered before the Mohali District Courts in September, 2011.
Karandeep Singh, along with the other suspect Deepak Arora, ran the immigration firm from Mohali which allegedly duped scores of youths of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of sending them abroad. Acoording to the police 111 different cases of cheating had been registered at the Phase I police station here against Deepak Arora, co-owner of Jet Immigration company. He along with his wife, Dolly Arora, had allegedly defrauded several persons while running their immigration offices.
Two arrested for thefts
With the arrest of two persons, the Chandigarh police claimed to have solved seven cases of mobile phone thefts and four cases of mobile phone snatchings. Team of Inspector Amanjot Singh managed to arrest Karamjit Singh, alias Sunny, a resident of Sector 29, and Jarnail Singh, alias Vicky, a resident of Raipur, Mohali. “The accused used to steal mobile phones by entering the houses in different sectors,” said a police official. Both the accused were produced before the court and sent to Judicial Custody. According to the police, both the accused have criminal past have been arrested earlier in similar cases. —TNS
